Permaculture design may be the only hope we have left for saving our
planet! Within a permaculture system, work is minimized, "wastes"
become resources, productivity and yields increase and the
environment is restored. Permaculture principles can be applied to
any environment, at any scale - from dense urban settlements to
individual homes, from farms to entire regions. Learn how you can
use permaculture principles on your own home garden or property to
create a truly sustainable system.
Andrew Leslie Phillips is the founder of Hancock Permaculture Center
located in Delaware County, New York

The Automatic Earth
A Century of Challenges:
Peak Oil, the Financial Crisis, and how to prepare for what’s to
come
Peak Oil and the collapse of global Ponzi finance are a “perfect
storm” of converging phenomena that threaten to sink our age of
prosperity through wealth destruction, social discontent and global
conflict. The consequences for unprepared individuals and families
could be dire.
Maureen Morgan, author of the "Surviving the Future" column in the
Westchester Business Journal writes, "Stoneleigh describes a
startling but persuasive picture of the future just ahead. She ties
all the current energy, food and environmental trends together to
paint a disturbing picture that demands our attention. Don't miss
her."

tailspin. With imports of oil cut by more than half – and food by 80
percent – people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships
and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban
people during this difficult time resulting in an example of options
and hope.

The End of Suburbia at
Croton-Harmon High School
Since World War II North Americans have invested much of
their newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of space,
affordability, family life and upward mobility. But as we enter the
21st century, serious questions are beginning to emerge about the
sustainability of this way of life. With brutal honesty and a touch
of irony, The End of Suburbia explores the American Way of Life and
its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global
demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply.
There will be a discussion group after the film.
7:30 P.M., Tuesday March 16th, 2010 at Croton-Harmon High School,
Old Post Road South, Croton on Hudson, NY.
Call Iris at 914 271-2356 and ask to be registered for the "Oil

caretakers of the Earth. Their stories of combating global warming
and the devastation of mountaintop removal, promoting environmental
justice, recycling, and land preservation, are the heart of Renewal.

- Our Planet, Our Legacy at the Altar of Science &
Conscience
The challenge of our time is before us. Yet, unlike any other
crisis of this magnitude, you cannot feel it, see it or touch it.
The cause and effect of global warming do not seem real to us, but
the consequences are very severe. Ours is a faith that embraces
science, honors the rights of all peoples and respects the
interdependent web of existence. In his sermon "Our Planet, Our
Legacy at the Altar of Science & Conscience," Stuart Caplan will
address doubt and the imperative to act. With action soon, the most
unconscionable impacts of warming can be averted. Caplan will very
pointedly present scientific consensus on the causes of global
warming and its impacts, and then explore how a call to conscience
and humanitarian principles crossing many faiths demand action on
the path to attainable solutions. We shall overcome, but only if we
appreciate the urgency, show leadership and courage in our homes,
congregations and communities and exercise our collective voice to
move forward.
Services at 9:30 and 11:15. February 21st. First Unitarian Society

Collapse
From the acclaimed director of The Yes Men and American Movie comes
this portrait of journalist Michael Ruppert, who predicted the
current financial crisis and has an apocalyptic vision for the
future that spans economics, energy, the environment, and more. And
it’s unnervingly persuasive. “What he says—right or wrong, prophecy
or paranoia—takes up residence in your mind” (Entertainment Weekly).
Q&A after the 7:30pm showing with panelists John Bell,
Cameron Kelly, and Sally Odland.
5:30 and 7:30 PM on Tuesday, January 19th at the
The Jacob Burns Film
Center, 364 Manville Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570. Info-line:

to a startling, but logical conclusion – our industrial society,
built on cheap and readily available oil, must be completely
re-imagined and overhauled. Free Admission.
